Arnold Jenkins

Arnold Jenkins, 93, of Robbinsville, NC passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Graham Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

A native of Graham County, he was the son of the late James Virgil and Esta Hyde Jenkins.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Orr Jenkins, his son, Roger Jenkins, his brother, Wallace Jenkins, and his sister, Zora Walker.

Arnold was a Veteran of WWII having served his country proudly in the US Navy. 

For many years, he and his brother, Wallace, owned and operated Jenkins Brothers Grocery in Robbinsville.  You could often find them telling jokes or stories or you might even walk in to find them playing their guitars and singing with a customer or even one of their suppliers.  They brought a lot of joy to their community, especially to the children that came through their doors.

Arnold is survived by his son, Jerry Jenkins of Robbinsville, NC; his brother, Carroll Jenkins of Charlotte, NC, and his sister, Betty Cantrell of LaFollette, TN.  He has several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Townson-Smith Chapel.  Reverends Daniel Stewart and Larry Icenhower will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00pm at the Chapel, prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Yellow Branch Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by the Naval Honor Guard.
