Emmett Phillips Obituary

Emmett R. Phillips, 81, of the Franks Creek Community in Robbinsville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 20, 2019 at his residence. 

A native of Graham County, he was the son of the late Henry and Ethel Roberts Phillips.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Rebecca Phillips, his brother, Herbert Phillips, and his sisters, Jessie Mae Grindstaff, Bunavee Carpenter, Alowayne Smith and Patty Sue Phillips. 

Emmett was a US Veteran having served his country proudly in the US Navy from 1956 until 1962.  He was a member of Sweetgum Baptist Church. 

Emmett is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Laura Carpenter; his sons and daughters in law, Kenny Phillips and Mitch and Phyllis Phillips, all of Robbinsville, NC; his daughters and sons in law, Amy and Butch Collins, and Rachel “DeeDee” and Jerry Phillips, all of Robbinsville, NC; his daughter in law, Meshell Phillips, of Robbinsville, NC; his brothers, Alvin Phillips, Don Phillips, and James Phillips; and his sisters, Ann Keith and Edna Cox.  His grandchildren are Kristy Claytor, Jasmine Picon, Jake Phillips, Lance Collins, Kayla Adams, and Kasondra Lovelace.  He has 10 great grandchildren, Maggie Shepherd, Isaac Picon, Chris Claytor, Cruz Claytor, Kolbi Woods, Haylen Lovelace, Jensen Lovelace, M’Kinzey Adams, Robert Lee Adams, and Ashley Adams, and 2 great great grandchildren, Cambri Shepherd and Mila Shepherd. 

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm Sunday, September 22, 2019 at the Townson-Smith Chapel. Reverends Patrick O’Dell and Kenny Ball will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Sunday at the Chapel, prior to the service.  Committal services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, September 23, 2019 at the Grindstaff Cemetery on Franks Creek Road where military rites will be conducted by Eller Rogers American Legion Post 192 and Carringer Webster VFW Post 8635.
