Hugh Coleman Atwell

Hugh Coleman Atwell, 76, of the Snowbird Community in Robbinsville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Autumn Care Center in Waynesville, NC.

A native of Graham County, he was the son of the late Rockwell and Cora Lee Carver Atwell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, David Atwell and Gary Pearson.

Hugh was a dedicated member of the Snowbird Volunteer Fire Department and served more than 20 years as the Chief.  He was also active in the Graham County Rescue Squad for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Roma Hedrick Atwell; his daughter and son in law, Rocanne and Kevin Sigmon of Robbinsville, NC; his grandchildren Lindsey Campbell, Amanda Orr, Nicole Sigmon, and Ashley Evans; his great grandchildren, Josie, Jude, and Jolie Campbell, Rosie, Wade, and Ezra Orr, Lauren Colvin, Alonnah Daniels, and Mason and Madden Evans; his sister, Edith Forbes of Kings Mountain, NC; and his brothers, Randall Atwell of Robbinsville, NC, and Darrell Pearson of Gastonia, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Cedar Cliff Baptist Church, of which he was a longtime member.  Reverends Daniel Stewart and Mickey Stewart will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 pm at the Church, prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Carver Cemetery.
