Mary Jo (Walsh) Birchfield

Mary Jo Birchfield, 90 of Robbinsville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Graham Healthcare and Rehabilitation. 

A native of Graham County, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Fannie Jordan Walsh.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cleve Birchfield, her children, Randall Birchfield, Dennis Birchfield, Lana Lane, and Brenda Carpenter, her granddaughters, Holly Eller and Mary Lane, and her brothers, Leonard Jordan, Modeal Walsh, Demie Walsh, and Tommy Walsh.

In her spare time, Mary Jo found that her greatest joy came from taking care of her family; she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.   She retired from Graham County Schools after 20 years of service as a Teacher’s Assistant.  She spent many hours studying her Bible, doing word search puzzles and she loved playing Rook. 

She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Donice and Clark Hooper of Mt. Pleasant, SC, her son, Tim Birchfield of Robbinsville, NC, and her grandchildren, Jill Ollis, Mark Hooper, Jr., Matthew Hooper, Brody Birchfield, Brady Birchfield, and Mandy Lane.  She has 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm Friday, March 1, 2019 at the Townson-Smith Chapel.  Reverends Scott Roper and Harold Beasley will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the Chapel, prior to the services.  Committal services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Lone Oak Baptist Church Cemetery.
