Mary Ellen (Brooks) Varner

Mary Ellen Varner, age 95 of the Hidden Valley Community in Robbinsville, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior, January 12, 2019.

            Born in Rose City, Michigan and the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Clemmons Brooks.  She was married to Theo Vern Varner for 69 years (1949-2010) until his death.  She moved from Pompano Beach, Florida to Robbinsville in 1993 after retirement from Publix Supermarket.

            She loved to travel having visited most of the United States and many other countries.  She also loved a good adventure: such as riding a mule down the Grand Canyon, Hot Air Balloon Ride, Glider plane ride, and many more.  She was devoted to her Christian Faith and to the Women’s Community Bible Study where she taught and attended about 22 years.  She truly loved all the ladies involved in this program.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

            She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Bill Peppers of Okeechobee, FL, Andrea and Patrick Kriser of Canton, NC, Musetta and Mike Cary of Robbinsville, NC; her grandchildren, Rev. Mike and Pam Peppers of Okeechobee, FL, Jon Gillette of West Asheville, NC and Meredith and Darrin Jenkins of Robbinsville, NC; great grandchildren, Emily and Jonathan Sylvain, Austin Jenkins and Adisyn Jenkins; and 2 great grandchildren, Finley and Kora Sylvain.

            Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the Townson-Smith Chapel.  The Reverend Mike Peppers will officiate.  Burial will follow the service at the Lower Sawyers Creek Cemetery.

            The family will receive friends from 1:00 till 2:00 pm Tuesday at the Chapel prior to the service.
