Robert Bruce Garland

Robert Bruce Garland, 88 of Johnson City, TN went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

          He was a native of Robbinsville, NC and the son of the late Charles Lester and Addie Rogers Garland.  In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maxine Martin Garland and by all but one of his siblings.

          Robert graduated from Western Carolina University with a Bachelor’s degree in business.  He was a Mason for 65 years and was also a Shriner.  In 1994, he and Maxine moved to Johnson City to be closer to their daughter and Granddaughter.

          Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Mary Ruth Garland of Johnson City, TN, his son, Dr. Tyson Garland of Crossville, TN, his brother, Lowell Garland of Robbinsville, NC; four grandchildren, including Shelby Garland, a second-year law student at Cornell University, who was the joy of her grandparents’ lives.

          Memorial Services will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Townson-Smith Chapel.  The Reverend Charles Garland will officiate.  The family will greet friends to share memories from 6:00 till 7:00 pm prior to the service.

          Robert’s wishes were to be cremated and buried in the Old Mother Church Cemetery next to his wife.  A private graveside will be held at a late date.
