Ruby Bernette (Carver) Bridges

Ruby Bernette Caver Bridges age 99, of Robbinsville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her family.

          She was born on August 14, 1919 in Andrews, NC to the late Ed and Ada Whitaker Carver.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Bridges in 1962; son, Earl Max Bridges in 1938; daughter, Mary Jane Winfrey in 2018; brothers, Wayne “Bear” Carver, J.D. Carver, James Carver all of Robbinsville, NC; and Howard Carver of Gastonia, NC.

          Bernette was a devout member of New Hope Baptist Church since she was 13 years old.  She will be remembered as a kind, meek, and joyful soul to all her friends and family.  To know her was to lover her.

          She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Nettie Bridges of Robbinsville, NC; daughters and sons-in-law, Jo and Sammy Winfrey, Clarice Ann and Benny Self, Shirley and Gilbert Stiles all of Robbinsville, NC, and Virginia and the late Jimmy Brown of Florida.

          Also sharing in her legacy are 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

          Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Townson-Smith Chapel.  The Reverends Patrick Odell and Darrin Self will officiate.  Burial will follow the service at the Old Mother Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 till 2:00 pm at the Chapel prior to the service.
