Verlin Richard Stewart

          Verlin Richard Stewart, 79, of Robbinsville, NC passed away December 21, 2017 at Graham Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

          A native of Graham County, he was the son of the late Mae Prince.  In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by Cliff and Maggie George, who helped raise him.     

          Richard was a veteran, having served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force.  He was a beloved father and grandfather.

          He is survived by his wife of 62 years, June Hyde Stewart; his daughters and son in law, Erma and Jerry Phillips, and Michelle Lane, all of Robbinsville, NC; his son and daughter in law, Michael and Patti Stewart of Warrenton, VA; his grandchildren, Leanne Butler, Austin Adams, Blake Marino, and Brittany Edwards; his great grandchildren, Justin Orr, Jordyn Butler, Autumn Butler, Aelyn Adams, Aeleese Adams, Woodson Edwards, Ithaka Edwards, Zerelda Edwards, and Blyth Marino; his sisters, Claudine, Luree, Carolyn, Brenda, and Jean; and his brothers, Roger and John.

          Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Bear Creek Baptist Church.  The Reverends Wayne McGuire and Darrin Self will officiate.  Burial will follow at Metz Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 pm at the Church, prior to the service.
