Ava "Donnie" Dowana (Grindstaff) Walls

Dowana “Donnie” Walls, 76 of Robbinsville, NC passed away, Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Murphy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

          She was a native of Graham County and the daughter of the late Wade and Marie Sherrill Grindstaff.

          She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Larry Walls; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Tim Nichols; nephew, Aaron Nichols and his wife, Blair.

          An avid reader, Donnie embraced learning throughout her life.  Her roots in western North Carolina fueled her passion and study of regional history and artifacts.  Donnie’s love of gardening and flowers also brought her joy, as did her travels across the United States.  Of all the places she spent time, the beaches along the Gulf of Mexico held a special place in her heart.  Donnie also built meaningful friendships throughout her life and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

          A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Townson-Smith Chapel.  Reverend Tom Buchanan will officiate, and a Eulogy will be given by Aaron Nichols.

          The family will receive friends from 12:00 till 1:00 pm Saturday at the Chapel prior to the service.
