Dollie Lee Stewart Hicks, 87 of Robbinsville, NC passed away from this life into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Monday, January 5, 2026, at Graham Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.
Born April 19, 1938, with her identical twin sister, Ollie; she was the daughter of the late Ed and Onita Hedrick Stewart, and was a native of Graham County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter’s father, Patrick Haford Maxwell.
She is survived by her daughters Meredith Maxwell Sharpe (Eddie) of Robbinsville, NC; Elaine Maxwell Stidd of Georgia; her sister Ollie Adams (Eddie) of Robbinsville, NC; and brother Nathan Stewart (Shirley) of Robbinsville, NC. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
From an early age, Dollie was very industrious, intelligent, and capable. These traits accompanied her into every job, task, and endeavor she would undertake. She was the Valedictorian of her graduating class at Robbinsville High School.
Dollie began her career as a secretary in a man’s world, in the field of sales. Not the easiest era, nor career, for women to excel in, but Dollie was persistent. After 29 years, she was finally given the opportunity to go from secretary to sales and hit the ground running. Often the first to arrive at work and the last one to leave, Dollie proved herself more than competitive by outselling all her male coworkers and found extreme gratification in doing so. She possessed a drive and tenacity that made her believe she could do anything she set her mind to. Not only did she believe it, but she also proved it time and again. Dollie blazed a trail that still today is followed by her children and grandchildren. The example she set was one of the greatest gifts passed down to her family, as it allowed them to pursue their passions and dreams to successful outcomes.
The last few years of Dollie’s life have, without question, been the most difficult and excruciating on both Dollie and her family who loved her so. To watch her deteriorate from the brilliant, beautiful, Christian woman she was into the deplorable depths of a cruel disease we know as Alzheimer's, bordered on the precipice of what she and her loved ones could bear. Even in these dark years, her daughter, Meredith, and her twin sister, Ollie, found comfort in being able to be by her side, loving her, caring for her, and bringing joy to her by doing the things she could no longer do for herself.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the Townson-Smith Chapel. Reverends Blair Stewart and Mickey Stewart will officiate. Burial will follow the service at the Carver Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 till 2:00 pm at the Chapel prior to the service.
