Obituary

Elma Adams Stratton, 94, of Robbinsville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Graham Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Robbinsville.

A native of Graham County, she was the last surviving child of the late Rev. Clarence and Della Stratton Adams.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W.O. Stratton; both of her children, Betty Jean “Jodi” Carver and Charles Williams; her grandson, Joe Pat Carver; her sisters, Ethel Phillips, Beulah Jordan, and Mellie Brooks; and her brothers, Clyde, Wayne, Charlie and Floyd Adams.

Elma was a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church for many years.  She loved singing about her Savior and loved seeing people draw near to Him.  She took great pride in many things:  her faith, her church, her family, her ability to work, her home and her yard, especially her yard, it had to be perfect.  The loss of both of her children was devastating to her, but in her grief, she clung to her faith even more tightly.  She was strongly dedicated to her family.   Her desire to help provide for them lead her to work a public job up into her 80’s.  After her retirement, she still worked around her home in caring for her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.  As an avid sports fan, on the weekends in the Fall, you could find her glued to any college football game she could find.  As her eyes began to fade, she would still tune in so she could listen.

She is survived by her granddaughters, Michelle Carver of Robbinsville, NC, Katie W. Shuler of Ohatchee, AL, Krissy W. Gossett, of Aniston, AL; her grandsons, Adam Carver and Cruz Williams, both of Robbinsville, NC; and her daughter in law, Kitty Carpenter Williams of Robbinsville, NC.  Her great grandchildren are Kourtney Shuler, Skylar Daniels, Alec Carver, Jordan Carver, Gavin and Carter Gossett, Taylyn Hunt, and Zaylee and Ziler Williams.  She has 4 great great grandchildren, Aela Walters and Alexandria and Gracelyn Smith and Kash Ortiz.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, August 21, 2023, at Lone Oak Baptist Church.  The Reverends Scott Roper and Daniel Stewart will officiate.  Burial will follow the service at Lone Oak Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 till 2:00 pm Monday at the Church prior to the service.

Townson-Smith Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Stratton Family.  An online register is available at www.townson-smithfuneralhome.com.
