Eula Mae Garland Hensley, 86 of the Sweetwater Community in Robbinsville, NC passed away, Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at the Solace Center in Asheville, NC following a brief illness.
She was a native of Graham County and the daughter of the late Wade J. and Edith Rose Garland. She was predeceased by her brother Billy Garland.
Mae was a woman of many talents. She was a master gardener who enjoyed working outside alongside her husband to create a beautiful lawn and flower garden. An avid reader, Mae was also a published author, having written a mystery entitled Wild Strawberries, which was loosely based on memories from her childhood. She loved to cook and was happiest when entertaining family and friends in her home.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny Hensley; sons, Steve and wife Sandra of Riverdale, GA; and Robbie and wife Susi of Lilburn, GA; four grandsons, James, Thomas, Christopher, and Phillip; brother Dale Garland and wife Mackie of Andrews, NC; sister-in-law Gayle Garland of of Robbinsville, NC; and nieces and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 26, 2025 at the Townson-Smith Chapel. Reverend G.D. Phillips will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 till 2:00 pm prior to the service.
Mae was a passionate animal lover, and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the local animal rescue organization, Graham County Animal Refuge, 42 Shuler Farm Rd. Robbinsville, NC 28771.
