Giles Lineback, 83 of Robbinsville, NC passed away, Thursday, November 16, 2023, at his residence.
He was born February 1, 1940, in Garner, NC outside of Raleigh to the late Ralph and Edith Garriss Lineback.
Giles, also known as “Sonny,” attended the Garner School, NC State University and also attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he received 2 Master Degrees. Giles then enlisted into the United States Air Force. He made a career in the Air Force and retired after 26 years of service to work and support his family. After retirement from the Air Force, he worked at several think tank jobs.
While he was visiting family in Raleigh, NC, he went to a football state championship where he watched Robbinsville Black Knights win a state championship. Giles was caught up in how much support the Black Knights had.
Giles then decided to move to Robbinsville, and he became the Black Knights #1 fan and supporter of all kids participating from the ages of 7 to 18.
Giles always looked forward to fall for it was time to hand out Halloween treats to over 100 kids and to support the Black Knights during their fall season, and hopefully on to another State Championship.
Giles made friends with so many people here like Wayne Wachacha and family, Lesley Hooper and family, Jack Brown Wiggins, The Daniels Sisters and all of the Robbinsville coaching staff, teachers and kids. He also enjoyed spending time with his special friends and neighbors, Steve and Thelma Hooper, and his special adopted granddaughter, Maycee Hooper. He was also very fond of the Burger Basket employees.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Angie Lineback and daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Mike Grove all of Florida, .
Giles will be deeply missed and his deep voice ringing out among the crowd on Friday night saying “Hey, Hey, Take that ball away!!!
