James Wallace Phillips Sr., 90 of Moravian Falls, NC formerly of Robbinsville, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
He was a native of Graham County and the son of the late Olin Phillips and Vola Buchanan Phillips Sawyer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Kirby; brother, Burlin Sawyer; and sisters, Olean Beasley, and Marie Aldridge.
Wallace was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was employed as a Certified Respiratory Therapist with District Memorial Hospital in Andrews, NC until his retirement. Wallace loved the simple things in life - working around their house in Robbinsville, tending to the garden, hunting, fishing, and riding the gator. As he got older, he especially enjoyed spending his days watching the wildlife from his chair, while watching his favorite shows on TV. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his entire world.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Karen Colvard Phillips; children and their spouses, Jimmy Phillips (Wendy), John Phillips (Karrie), and Dianne Holby. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Hannah Gallina (Anthony), Nicholas Phillips (Jocelyn), Tyler Phillips (Jessie), Noah Phillips, Kristi Fisher (Derek), Josh Gowan (Madison), Jakob Gowan (Aeriel), Amber Brandt, Jeffery James Holby, Summer Halbert (Quenton), Tiffanie Crawford (David), Gina Kirby (Shane), Thomas Kirby, Abrey McDaniel (Doran), Ainsley Boling, Addison Boling, and great grandchildren, Michael, Rowan, Norah, Westin, Nova, Ella, Kaizleigh, Greyleigh, Christian, Caroline, Ryleigh, Beauden, Percy, Naomi, Alex, Selene, Chris, Ashten, Ashley, Brianna, Talon, Jazlyn, Liam, Hunter, Annalise, Callahan, and Leighton.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm till 1:45 pm, Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the Townson-Smith Chapel. Graveside Services will follow the Visitation at 2:00 pm at the Old Mother Cemetery. Reverend Tom Buchanan will officiate.
