Janie Shirlene (Johnson) Bridges

Janie Shirlene Johnson Bridges of Robbinsville, NC passed away peacefully Sunday, December 8, 2024 at the home of her daughter in Blairsville, GA surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 6, 1934, in Hartford, TN to Lloyd and Celia Owens Johnson. The family moved to Robbinsville when she was very young. Janie married James Bridges at age sixteen and soon started a family to which she was totally devoted. She was a kind, Christian woman who always carried a smile, and had a contagious sense of humor. One of the things people will remember about her is that she made up silly words and used them in everyday conversation. If you were around her long enough, you would find yourself using those words, too!

In addition to her parents, Janie was preceded in death by her husband James, infant son James David, grandson Jody, son-in-law Larry and sister Betty Sue.

Janie is survived by her daughters Janet Garrett of Blairsville, GA, Ingrid Bernal of Robbinsville and Betsy Blankenship and husband Lynn of Apison, TN. She leaves behind two sisters Selma and Annette, and a brother David. She has five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

A memorial service for Janie will be held on Friday, December 13 at 2:00pm in the Townson-Smith Chapel, with the Pastor Darrin Self presiding. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Metz Cemetery.
