Joe Waldroup Obituary

Joe E. Waldroup, age 80, passed away at his residence on Friday, November 8, 2024.

He was the son of the late Ed and Essie Stewart Waldroup. He was preceded in death by his brothers Vern Waldroup and Kenny Waldroup.

Joe was a native of Graham County. He spent his entire adult life working in the highway construction business that he loved. He began as a laborer and ended up as an owner/operator of WALCO, Inc. of Robbinsville, NC. Joe had the attitude that he was not any better than anyone else. He did not expect his employees to do a job that he wouldn’t do himself. This work attitude and vast knowledge of the business earned him the respect of his employees and fellow construction company owners. Joe loved to work and did so until he couldn’t anymore.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Libby) Waldroup and grandson Paxton Ford Waters of the home.

Son and daughter-in-law; Jason and Amanda Nichols, grandchildren Emma Nichols, Maddox Nichols, and Isaac Wilkinson of Robbinsville.

Daughter Kerry Waldroup and Ashley Wiegand of Menominee, Michigan.

Daughter Denise W. Holder, granddaughter Kaitlyn T. Elliott, great grandson Slade Elliott; granddaughter Kandace H. Farley (Mac), great grandchildren Harper Belanger, Randy Farley and Coy Farley of Robbinsville.

Daughter and son-in-law Kelcye W. and Jason Crisp; grandchildren Paxton Waters, Jazmin Crisp, Jaydin Crisp, Creed Crisp, Blake Powers, Jayce Shuler and Chloe Phillips of Robbinsville.

Brothers Jim Waldroup (Doris) of Alabama, Bill Waldroup (Brenda), Rufus Waldroup (Sharon), Lonnie Waldroup (Myra) of Robbinsville.

Sister-in-law Brenda Waldroup of Robbinsville.

A special cousin who was like a brother, Dave Stewart of Robbinsville.

And many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends of whom he was very fond.

Joe was an adored husband, father, papaw, brother and friend. He was a kind and caring man who loved God and family. He will be greatly missed.

Graveside service will be in Carver Cemetery on Saturday, November 30 at 12:00 noon. The Reverand Daniel Stewart will officiate. Family and friends are all welcome to attend.
