John Wesley Trammell, age 80, of the East Buffalo Community, went on to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in Concord, North Carolina. Born February 5, 1945, in Houston, MS, he was the son of the late Johnny Murray Trammell and Ruth Stroupe Trammell Orr. From the age of six, he lived in Graham County, which he would consider home for the rest of his life.
Never a stranger to hard work, Wesley had his first job with Phillips & Jordan, Inc. at age fifteen as a laborer, eventually learning to run a chainsaw, which he enjoyed more than anything right up until the last job he was on. He also operated bulldozers, backhoes, and anything else needed on a clearing project. He would continue to work for the rest of his life, founding Wes-Ben with his brother Benny in the 1980s, and eventually working with RICASHA Inc. and Ruby Rentals.
Anyone who ever met Wes will remember that his relentless work ethic was matched by his sense of humor, his humility, and his generosity. He never forgot where he came from, and he never missed an opportunity to help anybody around him who needed it, without ever wanting any thanks or recognition in return.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Wanda Sue Trammell Hill and husband Jack Hill, brother Billy Trammell, sister Benita Conway, nieces Rhonda Hill and Tonia Curtis, nephew James Wesley Orr, and great-nephews Loudon Orr and Kyle Garver.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Orr Trammell of Robbinsville, son Ritchie (Sarah) Trammell of Concord, NC, grandchildren Slade Trammell of Knoxville, TN, Faith (Dylan Johnson) Trammell of Harrisburg, NC, Tacey (Joe Tietjen) Trammell and Destanee (Cooper Hyatt) Trammell of Charlotte, NC, and Tylen Trammell of Concord, NC and Sophie Wang of Starkville, MS; as well as step-granddaughters Emma Gaines of Villa Rica, GA and Olivia Gaines of Concord, NC. Also surviving him are his sister Sandra (Everett) Myers and brother Benny (Gaye) Orr of Robbinsville; nieces and nephews Keith (Karen) Hill, Jerry (Monica) Hill, Pam Patterson (Robert), Angela Yeager (Billy), James Murray Trammell (Bonnie), Shane (Susan) Hill, Tabatha Lloyd, Todd (Kendra) Lewis, and Kyle Orr; several great-nieces and nephews, and several great-great nieces and nephews.
