Lonnie Joe Waldroup

Lonnie Joe Waldroup, 76, of Robbinsville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 10th, 1948 in Graham County, NC to the late Forest Waldroup and Velma Orr Stafford.

In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Sis Waldroup and stepson Brian Fox.

He leaves behind 3 children, a daughter, Shelley Waldroup of Myrtle Beach SC, 2 sons, Chris Waldroup (Christy) and Scott Waldroup both of Robbinsville NC. Joe had several nieces and nephews and loved them all. He had a special relationship with his nephew Cain Jordan. He was especially fond of Cains cooking abilities.

He was brother to Roma Gail Collins (Jimmy), Leonard Waldroup (Sue), Teresa Brown (David) and Vickie Jordan (Terry), all of Robbinsville NC. Cecil Causey (Susan), of Alabama, was Joe’s lifelong best friend and earned the role of brother many years ago. Joe has 7 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

He was known for his God given talent to fix farm tractors and was happiest laying on his back under a tractor. Known for his work ethic, Joe was the hardest worker many of us ever knew. Embodying dedication and perseverance in everything he did.

He also had the ability to tell captivating hunting stories and tales of every wild boar and bear he ever killed. He taught his family that there was right and there was wrong. He would always say, “Cover the ground you stand on.” If you knew Joe, he covered the ground he stood on.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 29, 2024, in the Townson-Smith Chapel. The Reverends Scott Roper and Mitch Orr will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2:00 pm prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Lone Oak Baptist Church Cemetery.
