Lyonel Charles Lovin, 75, of the Atoah Community of Robbinsville, went home to be with the Lord, Friday July 28th , 2023 at Mission Hospital in Ashleville, NC.
A native of Graham County, he was the son of the late O.B and Ruby Lovin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Oliver Lovin and Jerry Lovin.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 54 years, Jane Lovin and his children Billy Lovin and Christy Waldroup (Chris), his grandchildren, Ashley Moody (Bryon), Stacey Vetten (Nick), Cody Carpenter (Brandy), Will Waldroup, and Autumn Lovin, his 16 great-grandchildren and his brother Dwight Lovin. Along with many more friends and family.
Lyonel loved the Lord and his church family. He was a witness for God and was heard praying some of the most sincere and humbling prayers. A proud veteran of the U.S Navy. Forgiving, understanding and he had a kind and generous heart. He was the “cut-up” in the family and was constantly cracking jokes and telling funny stories.
Lyonel was a jack of many trades and could fix almost anything his family “tore up”. One phone call was all it took to get him to put his boots on to come help. He was a hard worker and provider for his family.
So many words were used to describe him. Loving, goofball, strong, brave, race car driver, law man, outlaw, shoulder to lean on, Mr. Fix It, advice giver, funny, smart but also sometimes a smart aleck!
Lyonel was a cool guy with his fast cars and adventurous streak, he loved being outdoors, camping, hunting, riding horses and racing Dune Buggys. Sometimes he was a rebel, he actually went AWOL to marry Jane! Lyonel, Pop, Dad, Papaw, Daddy, Friend, Brother, Papaw Lion, Papaw Lynie. He added something special to all our lives. Showed so much love for all his family and friends. He was one of the good ones. They just don’t make them like that anymore.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at the Townson Smith Chapel. The Reverend Darrin Self will officiate. Burial will follow the service in the Metz Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 till 2:00 pm Tuesday at the Chapel prior to the service.
