Maxine Brooks Orr, 85, of Robbinsville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 16, 2021, at Graham Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Robbinsville, NC.
A native of Graham County, she was the daughter of the late Harley and Eula Orr Brooks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Orr, in 1982.
Maxine grew up in the East Buffalo Community in Robbinsville and attended Lone Oak Baptist Church. She accepted Christ as her Saviour at a young age and lived her life to go to Heaven. Her great faith grew her into a prayer warrior for her family, her friends, and her community. The tremendous love she had for her family was evident in the pride she showed as she would talk of them. She was most proud of her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jordan and John Hill, and in return, they thought of her as the sweetest Nana in the whole wide world.
Later in her life, she began attending Robbinsville First Baptist Church. As a member there, she served as VBS Director for many years.
Maxine retired from Graham County Schools after working as an assistant teacher for more than 30 years. Her love for children and their wellbeing knew no bounds.
She is survived by her children, Debbie Orr of Robbinsville, NC, and Donnie and Tina Orr of Maryville, TN; her granddaughter and grandson in law, Jordan and John Hill of Chandler, AZ; her brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Wanda Brooks; her sisters, Dottie Adams of Robbinsville, NC, and Kathleen Garland of Alcoa, TN; and her sisters in law, Maudie Sue Burke (Vernon) and Willa Mae Waldroup, all of Robbinsville, NC. She has several nieces and nephews who will cherish their memories of Maxine.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Lone Oak Baptist Church. Reverends Noah Crowe, John Hill, and Scott Roper will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 pm Tuesday at the church, prior to the services.
