Nellie (Lee) Day

Nellie Lee Day went home to be with the Lord on January 27, 2025. She was 96 years old. Nell was a devout Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a loved member of Bear Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her garden, canning and putting a feast on the table. Her meals were a feast fit for kings.         

She was a native of Swain County and the daughter of the late Jess and Zennie Southard Lee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Pastor J.C. Day, her daughters Peggy Ann Day & Benalee Brooks, her grandson Jamie Brooks and her granddaughter Renee Roper.

She is survived by her son and his wife Calvin & Linda Day and their sons John & Craig Day. Her daughter & son-in-law Linda & Eugene Hooper and their children, Travis (Connie), Brody, Lynn Hooper and Maria Shook (Bryan) and their children and grandchildren. Her son Ronnie and wife Cindy Day and his two sons Randy (Starla) & Dustin Day and their children and grandchildren. Her grandson Jeff Brooks and his wife Marie and their children & grandchildren & the late Renee Roper children and grandchildren.

          Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Townson-Smith Chapel.  Reverend Eddie Hollifield will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 till 1:00 pm at the Chapel prior to the service.  Burial will follow the service at the West Cemetery.
