Peggy Yvonne Nelms Hyde, 78 of Robbinsville, NC, met her Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday June 14, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was a native of Graham County and the daughter of the late Ed and Oleta Rice Nelms. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill Nelms, Don Nelms, Jerry Nelms; and 2 nephews, John Edward Nelms and Willie Nelms.
Peggy was a devoted wife and mother. She was a pillar of faith to her family and her community. She was an active and faithful member of Cedar Cliff Baptist Church for over 50 years. Peggy had a beautiful, warm smile that left everyone feeling welcomed and content. Anyone who knew her described her as gracious, sweet, gentle, kind, selfless, and humble; everyone mattered and she was a cherished friend of so many.
She had an associate’s degree in business and worked in the banking industry for more than 20 years and she retired from Swain County Government as the county tax administrator. She has left a legacy of a life filled with meekness and humility. A beautiful example for all.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harvey Hyde; daughter, Sophia Brown (Matt), son, Matthew Hyde (Afton); grandchildren, Shelby Anderson (Blake), Carson Ogle (Logan), Callyn Brown, and Camden Hyde; great grandchildren, Caroline Ogle, Rhett Ogle, Dallas Anderson, Presley Anderson; sisters, Lib Garza, and Patricia Carver; and 13 nieces and nephews, each holding a dear and special place in her heart.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Cedar Cliff Baptist Church. Reverends Daniel Stewart and Wayne McGuire will officiate. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am till 1:00 pm Thursday at the Church prior to the service. Burial will follow the services at the Old Mother Cemetery.
Townson-Smith Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Hyde family.
