Robert David Lawson

     Robert “Bob” Lawson, 77 of Cheoah Community in Robbinsville, NC passed away peacefully in his sleep, on January 9, 2023, at his residence.

     Bob was a California native who moved to Graham County in 2002.  He was a drum maker extraordinaire who specialized in hand drums, ceremonial drums, and gourd and horn rattles that have been sold to people around the world.  He loved being creative.  What could he make with this wood or that one? How were the drums going to sound?  What plants would create dyes on rawhide?  How could he create different tie dyes?  And don’t get him started with indigo dye baths-he wanted to dye EVERYTHING blue.  He was passionate about learning every day,and sharing his knowledge with others.

     Bob was a loving husband and father.  He loved to cook and be creative in the kitchen.  He had a dry sense of humor and enjoyed telling stories, jokes, and puns.  He could make really funny faces that always cracked little children up, adults too if they were watching.

     He was the son of the late Connie Hauser and Henry Lawson.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Diana Lawson.

     He is survived by his second wife, Carol Lawson of Robbinsville, NC; Barbara Jones of CA, mother of his daughters, Jennifer Lawson of CA and Sara Lawson of WA; grandsons, Jake Albert of CA, Tristan and River Perritt of WA; his siblings, Elizabeth Dupin (Christophe) of WA, Joann Fuentes (James) of CA, Christine Hauser (David) of CA, Eric Hauser of CA, and Fred Hauser (Judy) of CA.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

     A Memorial Service will be held at the Robbinsville United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 2:00 pm with one following on the west coast for his family out there.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 till 2:00 pm prior to the service at the Methodist Church.
