Robert Orr, age 91 of the Fort Hill Community of Robbinsville, NC passed away, Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC
Robert was a native of Graham County and the son of the late Charlie and Winnie Millsaps Orr. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Edna Coffin, Elva Crisp, Ruth Jenkins, Velma Latham, Maurice Orr, and Harold "Flossie" Orr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Kay MeHaffey Orr, his son and best friend, Ethan Orr of Georgia and a special niece, Sereita M. (Kevin) Powers of Richmond, VA who was like a daughter to him. In addition he is survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Robert was a proud member of the Army and served in Korea from 1955 -1957. After working for 42 years at the plant on Atoah Road, he retired as a supervisor from Stanley Furniture. Robert also lived a life of service for Christ. He was a longtime member of The Gideons and a founding member of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as Choir Director and Chairman of the Elders. He helped with the construction of the Church and even mowed the grass for many years.
Robert also had a passion for singing and was a member of the Robbinsville Quartet for several decades. He touched the lives of many people through his singing. Robert also never met a stranger and always had a smile and kind word for anyone who would talk to him. After a short illness he is now singing with the Heavenly Choir.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the Graham County EMS, Mountain Home Health Services, Mission Hospital Staff ands Four Seasons Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Robert and his family during his illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 pm Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Townson-Smith Chapel. Reverends David Blackney and Josh Holder will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 till 7:00 pm Friday at the Chapel prior to the service. Committal Services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Gideons or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
