Robert Parette Colvin (Bob, Bobby, Coach) of Robbinsville, NC passed away, Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Brooks-Howell Retirement Community in Asheville, NC. He was 83 years old.
Named after his maternal grandfather and the doctor who delivered him, Bob was born to William (Willie) and Sidney Phillips Colvin in Robbinsville, on January 5, 1940.
A graduate of Robbinsville High School, he would go on to attend Clemson University, transferring to Western Carolina University earning undergraduate and graduate degrees. Then, coming back to the place he loved to begin his teaching and coaching career.
After a long and storied career that saw him lead the RHS football program to multiple conference and state championships, he was inducted into regional and state Halls of Fame and awarded countless accolades and awards, most recently, having the RHS football field named in his honor. This all pales in comparison to the connections and the positive impact he made with the students and athletes who traveled along with him on this journey.
He began the next part of his life by continuing on with other worthy accomplishments, such as, being an avid reader, fly fishing enthusiast, doubles tennis partner, lawn ranger, recliner jeopardy and crossword champion and being the Cleveland Browns and Indians most loyal and dedicated fan. Also, always and forever being a constant and unwavering mentor to his own children and many others across our county and beyond.
Bob struggled with Parkinsonism for the last 15 years of his life. Had it not been for his healthy lifestyle and his mental toughness, he would have never made it as long as he did. He is now pain free and with his family he missed so dearly.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Doyle Colvin. All of whom he dutifully and lovingly cared for in the moments at the end of their lives.
He is survived by his son, Branyon Colvin, daughter and son-in-law, Haize and Cory Lewis, and grandchildren, Calix (11) and Tallulah (9), Beloved cousin, Rosemary Zimmerman and Mother of his Children, Darla Colvin.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, February 5, 2023, at the Robbinsville High School Gym. The Reverend David Blackney will officiate. Burial will follow the service at the Old Mother Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 till 2:00 pm in the gym prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bob Colvin Memorial Scholarship Fund. Townson-Smith Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Colvin Family. An online register is available at www.townson-smithfuneralhome.com.
