Rufus Waldroup

Rufus Waldroup, 72 of the Snowbird Community passed away peacefully into the arms of his savior, May 29, 2025, surrounded by his family.

            Rufus was a native of Graham County and the son of the late Ed and Essie Stewart Waldroup.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe Waldroup, Vernon Waldroup, and Kenny Waldroup.

            Rufus spent many years working in the construction field, where he was well known for his work ethic and operating skills.  He loved spending his time in the mountains hunting and fishing with his grandsons and friends.  Rufus was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  But most importantly he loved the Lord.

            He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sharon Stewart Waldroup, daughters, Haley Waldroup Brooks (Jamie) of Robbinsville, NC, Lacey Waldroup Lambert of Whittier, NC, grandsons, Tyler Brooks (Ashley), Wesley Brooks (Tilya), Connor Lambert, and Blake Lambert.  Rufus also had 2 great granddaughters who he cherished dearly, Emberley Brooks and Millie Brooks.  He is also survived by his brothers, Jim Waldroup of Alabama, Bill Waldroup and Lonnie Waldroup both of Robbinsville, NC.

            Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.  Reverends James York and Mickey Stewart will officiate.  Burial will follow the service at Carver Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Tyler, Wesley, Connor, Blake, Jamie, Mitch and the honorary Pallbearers will be Seth, Ronnie, and Eddie.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 till 2:00 pm at the Church prior to the service.
