Stoan Martin Waldroup, 32 of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina passed away peacefully on January 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife and family after a valiant battle with brain cancer.
Stoan was born on March 27, 1991, in Orlando, Florida to Kevin and Kim Waldroup. In 1996, his family moved to Myrtle Beach. He graduated from Socastee High School in 2010 where he excelled in football and lacrosse. His senior year, he was recognized as “Athlete of the Year”.
During his years of playing lacrosse, he developed a strong brotherhood with his fellow teammates that has carried over into adulthood. Forever friends that truly loved one another.
Exercise was one of his passions and after high school, he went on to continue his education at Coastal Carolina University earning a BS in Exercise Science.
In 2019 he began dating Sylvia Park, a high school classmate that he went nearly 10 years without seeing…a long-lost friendship that soon blossomed into a beautiful love story. Unfortunately, the following year, Stoan was diagnosed with brain cancer. However, Sylvia stood by him every step of the way and after 18 months of treatments, he actually beat the odds and was considered cancer free. They were married in 2022 and life was great. Stoan and Sylvia were blessed with the news that they were expecting a baby boy that is due in April 2024. Sadly, this past November the cancer returned with a vengeance and treatments were not successful. Throughout this battle, Stoan remained courageous and steadfast in his faith in the Lord and was loved by all that knew him. He will truly be missed, but never forgotten.
Stoan was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Murial and Ralph Adams of Robbinsville, North Carolina. He is survived by his wife Sylvia, unborn son, Brooks, his parents, and his brother Chais, all of Myrtle Beach, his paternal grandparents Varnell and Ila Rae Waldroup, and his great grandmother Lena Waldroup, all of Robbinsville, his father-in-law Jim Park of Myrtle Beach and a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins along with many, many lifelong friends.
Stoan’s family would like to express how touched and grateful they are for the ongoing generosity of friends, family and strangers. They have been completely overwhelmed by the love and kindness they have been shown and wish to extend their heartfelt thanks.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm, Tuesday January 16, 2024, at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet SC 29576.
