Walter Ingram Obituary

Walter Jackson Ingram, 85, of Atlanta Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2024. Born on September 22, 1938, Murphy, North Carolina, Walter was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He was raised in Robbinsville, North Carolina, where he still has strong ties. One of his last adventures was to return to Robbinsville where he enjoyed a long ride touring his childhood hometown.

Walter was known for his unselfish and kind-hearted nature. He saw the best in everyone and everything.  He always greeted others with a smile and a joke.  He had a genuine love of people and brought joy to those around him.

In his professional life, Walter had a successful career as an accountant. He worked with the state of North Carolina, General Motors, and even operated his own practice from 1964 to 1978.  Later he worked as a salesman representing several banking equipment companies. In his later years, he worked at H&R Block helping others until he was 84!

Education played an important role in Walter’s life.  He attended Robbinsville High School before pursuing higher education at Western Carolina University.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and had a strong belief in God. We take comfort knowing he is in Heaven, embracing the ones he loved while telling jokes to everyone.

Outside of his work Walter had a passion for history and was an avid reader.  He was a long-standing member of the Atlanta Northlake Elks lodge where he enjoyed fellowship, stewardship, and an occasional good drink.  He especially enjoyed attending University of Georgia football games and visiting his favorite place, St Simons Island.

Walter is survived by his only daughter and son-in-law, Francie and Tommy Disco; his granddaughters and their husbands, Melanie Disco (Tim Stevens) and Katie Disco (Will Gaddy); and his beloved great grand children, Jana, Rosie, and Julia Stevens, and Tucker Gaddy.  His brother Ed Ingram of Robbinsville, North Carolina, nephew Mike Ingram, and several great nieces and nephews also survive him.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Edward Ingram; his wife of 55 years, Frances Hooper Ingram, and two precious great-grand sons William Gaddy III and Ronald Theodore Andrew Stevens.
