Johnnie Smith

Retired President

Johnnie Ray Smith is the oldest of three sons of Wallace and Ruth Shuler Smith.  He was raised in Michigan, but moved to Robbinsville, NC, after his parents returned to help care for his grandparents.  He went into the military shortly after moving to North Carolina.  After his military service he married Sandra Crisp, daughter of Booth (Jr.) and Violet Colvard Crisp.  He began working full time at the funeral home in 1978 when he and Wallace bought the business. In 1995 he completed the required courses and received his Funeral Directors License. His main goal in his business has been to be carry on the traditions Wallace envisioned for Townson-Smith Funeral Home in caring for the families touched by grief in the community.  Currently, Johnnie is in the process of retiring.  He is dedicating as much time as possible to his granddaughter, Calin, and doing whatever she asks him to do.

April Smith

President

April Smith is the daughter of Johnnie and Sandra Crisp Smith and granddaughter of Ruth Shuler Smith and the late Wallace Smith.  She is the third generation of the Smith Family to work  in the Funeral Service Industry.Having grown up around the business, it was a natural course for her to gravitate towards the business as a career.After graduating from Robbinsville High School, April attended Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service.  She received her Funeral Service License in September 1995. April remembers well how Wallace conducted himself and his business.  Today, she is directly involved in the inner workings of Townson-Smith Funeral Home.  She is proud to continue in the footsteps that her father and grandfather have laid before her.In March of 2009, April married Calvin Gladden, who attended Fayetteville Tech and is now licensed in Funeral Service. They have one daughter, Calin Denise Gladden, who was born on May 3, 2012.

Calvin Gladden

Funeral Service Licensee

In March, 2009, April Smith married Calvin Gladden, also a Robbinsville native. After attending Fayetteville Tech, Calvin received his Funeral Service License in 2014. He is a vauled addition to the Townson-Smith Family and works in every aspect of the business. He and April have one daughter, Calin Denise Gladden, who was born on May 3, 2012.

Warner Deyton

Assistant to the Funeral Director

Warner Deyton is a Graham County native. He grew up in the Sweetwater Community in Robbinsville, NC.

He has one daughter, Monica Sawyer, and two grandchildren, Connor and Cassie.

Warner has been an active member of the Graham County Rescue Squad for many years.  He has helped in numerous searches and recovery missions throughout the area.

Warner has helped out at Townson-Smith Funeral Home for many years in times when he was needed.  More recently, he is working more frequently.  

His kind and caring demeanor suit him perfectly to the work he does at the Funeral Home.
